Some dude once said “anime is for jerks” and though I’ve never really had much of an actual opinion on the issue, I’m increasingly of the mind that he was right all along.

Have you looked at RAM prices recently? It's kind of insane.

jeffgerstmann:

No, I try not to look at component prices unless I’m actively in the market for something.

As someone who enjoys replaying old games, what do you think about more and more single player games having online only elements in them? If you want to replay them years down the line they'd not be complete anymore. Even if it's not the biggest elements of sp games so far I still think it's sad to think that the complete games are lost to the ether. Imagine if you could no longer play the complete version of Smash Tv.

jeffgerstmann:

I’d rather see technology move forward and see games try new things, even if those things might be hard to archive later.

oh shit dril follows you?

jeffgerstmann:

we are all dril

Regarding internet death threats and harassment in general, I've always suspected that the worst of that stuff comes from 13-18 year olds. How do you convince a teenager not be a horrible dick? At least in the past their bad behavior was locally contained and largely non-anonymous. Give a teenager a method to contact anyone in the world anonymously and of course that is going to go south. Why does this surprise people? How are they so naive as to expect good behavior from every child on earth?

jeffgerstmann:

As someone who was kind of an asshole through the entirety of my teens, I used to think this had to be the case, too. But some people just aren’t growing out of that phase anymore and they’re becoming extremely shitty adults.

ewatsondaily:

What I find difficult about photo shoots is the line between playing a character—you’re being asked by the photographer to take on a role like you would in a movie—and being a fancier version of yourself. It’s about finding that line between being spontaneous and open to direction, but also trying to explain to photographers that the “me” is often taken out of context because it has all of this other stuff attached to it. Photographers want to reinvent you, to take you somewhere else, to show you in a completely different way. They look at your previous work, and try to figure out what they can do to show a new side of you.

So I get it, the "pivot to video" is here and video's easier to ingest than text. But doesn't it come off as a little desperate to embed an auto-playing video at the top of a news story even if nobody watches it? Isn't that just going to drive potential viewers AWAY? I know I specifically avoid sites that have auto-playing embedded video articles.

jeffgerstmann:

Auto-play video that is only barely related to the story below is pretty awful. Can’t wait for browsers to keep getting better at blocking that shit. I feel like the only valid use of auto-play might be “you clicked on a button that clearly indicated you were heading to a live stream, so here’s the video, already in progress.”
